I am not seeing file name extensions for document library entries.

How can you display the complete file names with their proper extensions
in the document library list on the home page and on the Documents page?

Why should you want this? The icon alongside it indicates the kind of file
it is.

Anyway a lot of use don't use filename in our lists but Title which we can
then make more representative of the contents of a document than file name.
In that case of course we don't have an extension either.

I feel that people gain through giving the documents good names but I don't
see the advantage of being able to see a file extension especially because
all you need to do is to move the mouse cursor over the file name in
question and you *will* see the full name/location with
file extension.

Thanks for your response.

Why do I want to display full filenames?

Well, unless you take extraordinary steps (described in the excellent
FAQs), the correct icon is NOT shown.

Also, because some of our users may not be as familiar with where they
have to look to see the mouse "hover" results.

Also, because some file types do not have familiar icons.

Also, I because want to.

So who can overlook my possibly deficient motivations and suggest a way
to do what many of us do in our browser options: turn off the file
extension suppression?

I always give myself as much information as possible in Windows Explorer
(including making file extensions; hidden files; system files visible) so I
can sympathize.

At the same time I've never felt the need for it here - very likely because
I never list file names anyway.

I doubt if there is a solution that will satisfy you because I suspect it's
a built-in feature, but maybe someone else can come in and prove me wrong.

Glad you liked the newsgroup FAQ.

(There are icons for almost every kind of file under the sun if you follow
the link included there.)
