optimizing network sp2010 in vm

I've seen many developer using a vm set in "bridged networking", cloning the same virtual machine win2008x64 disk, so the pc have all the same machine name, this way they have to set the name in hosts file to point to self 127.0.0.1.
I've tested changing the machine name, then using a tool to rename the sharepoint setup, all goes on well.
I've also made it work changing to "host only networking" taking the network traffic out of the real LAN and keeping within the machine.
Then I've set the LAN connection to be shared with Windows ICS, ok, working.
In any of these cases I've found poor performances anyway. Is there anything that can be done better?
