In sharepoint, I created a site. Then I added calendars for 8 users.
What I'm trying to do is set permissions so that each user can only
see their calendar. Anyone have any tips on that?

Create eight calendars. Then you can restrict access to each calendar to
a single user.

Alternatively use a single calendar

The settings you can specify in (for instance)

Team Site > TestCalendar > Settings > Advanced Settings

could be that readers can read only their own entries and/or can edit
only their own entries.

Or create on view for each user, then use this feature to assign who can
see which view:

A good suggestion in theory but you run into a few problems.

The first of course that this is not part of the product as delivered
and thus needs to be installed.

The second is that as a free codeplex function it's supported only by
the maker (if he feels like it)

The third is that various people (on that page) have reported that it
doesn't work for them.

Note that I'm not saying that we shouldn't consider codeplex solutions.
(I particularly like the Extended Blog Edition) but we ought to be aware
of the consequences of using them. I would generally be wary of codeplex
solutions that like this try to amend built-in security restrictions.

Mike,

Thanks, your directions got me one step closer to realizing the dream
that is sharepoint calendar. I'm just struggling with one other issue
though. I have it so that the user can only see their entries in the
calendar, but what I want is oh lets say the sales manager to see all
the calendar events that regular users add. Kinda a calendar
superuser. Do you know if that is possible? Anyone?

I think the one (could be that readers can read only their own entries
and/or can edit only their own entries.) excludes the other ( sales
manager to see all the calendar events that regular users add)

But if you go back to my (eight calendars for eight people) approach, he
can read the lot.

Which makes me think that you can use a calendar roll-up web part if
there is one (commercial - I think Bamboo Solutions have one) to get
just one calendar for your sales manager that consolidates all the
individual calendars.

That would then presumably be the only calendar on the page as the users
would still only see the contents of their own calendar in the roll-up
web part.

(You'll have to look for such a web part yourself and check if users
could add content that way or would need to go directly to their own
calendar List instead.
