This gotta be something silly...

I have a MOSS 2007 installation on a test server. I have outgoing SMTP set
up.

I create a document library, then click on Actions/Alert Me.

It shows my name (underlined) in "Send Alerts To". I change the type to
"New items are added" and click OK. I get the message:

"The following users do not have e-mail addresses specified: My Name. Alerts
have been created successfully but these users will not receive e-mail
notifications until valid e-mail addresses have been provided"

There is then a link I can click labeled "Set my e-mail address".

When I click it, it takes me into Edit Personal Settings, showing my domain
account. I click OK,then it takes me to People and Groups. I click on my
name and it takes me to my My Site. I click Edit Details, but there is no
e-mail address field there, and I don't see one anywhere else on My Site.

If I go back to the home page of MOSS, then under "Welcome My Name" I choose
"My Settings", it shows me a User Information screen, but "Work e-mail" is
blank. So I click Edit Item and it takes me to another screen with just an
"Account" field. If I click OK, it then goes right back to the MOSS home
page - no messages or anything.

Why can't I enter my e-mail address anywhere. (I am a domain admin, if that
matters.)

I'm not sure if this helps but
http://www.asaris.de/sites/walsh/Lists/WSSv3%20FAQ/DispForm.aspx?ID=936 says
you need to be a Site Collection Administrator before you can edit *other*
people's user information.

(I know you were asking about editing your own).

Hi JJ,

Have you had any luck with this? I am having the same problem but may have
gotten 1 step further. I went into the shared services administration and had
to select the radio button option against the Work Email profile property
that said "Allow users to edit values for this property".

This then allowed me to edit my email address through the My Profile page in
My site. But then when I use the My Settings nav item in the top right
corner, the Work Email is not populated. And when I say Edit Item, I see only
the Account field. Same as JJ.

Can anyone help with this?
Thanks

Cheers
