Hi ,
as far as I know each document added to a document library is saved in
the SQL DB associated with the result of very large DB.
A customer asked me if it's possible to use normal NTFS partition to save
data .
Also for customers who already have lots of documents how can they be
bulk imported into the document library

Thanks
Stefano

You're right, the documents are stored in the database.

There is an API that allows us to store information outside of SQL,
but I think it's underdocumented, to say the least.

One way to do a bulk load is to use windows explorer. You can connect
to the sharepoint library via a UNC name and then drag/drop files
directly to it.

UNC would be something like \\server\site\doclib

There are tools about to help you with folder creation on import (and
export)
http://www.codeplex.com/SPIEFolder

Another option is to leave the files in a folder, allow your users to work
with the folder and index them in MOSS so search results include those files

The codeplex tool works well on the export and probably works great on the
import. However, I tried to import folders and files and got a sharepoint
security permission error. Does anyone know how to overcome that problem?

BTW, the tool has versions for .NET 1.1 & 2.0.
