Last night some critical patches were applied to our SPS v2 server. Upon reboot we started having some real issues. Bascially, the Sharepoint Admin Service will not start, which is causing the portal search to fail, indexing to fail and the AD import to fail for user accounts.

Task Scheduler and RPC services are running. Which Sharepoint admin is dependent on.

If anyone has any suggestions of has encountered similiar issues, I sincerely appreciate the help. I am currenly gathering information on what MS critical patches were applied to the server last night , just incase it was related to the Sharepoint services breaking.

Here are the various errors encountered:

1. Trying to start the Sharepoint admin service manually throws an "Error 193 oxc1"
2. The Event Logs states these errors:
"The SharePoint Portal Administration service failed to start due to the following error:
SharePoint Portal Administration is not a valid Win32 application. "

"The Microsoft SharePointPS Search service depends on the SharePoint Portal Administration service which failed to start because of the following error:
Microsoft SharePointPS Search is not a valid Win32 application."

"DCOM got error "The dependency service or group failed to start. " attempting to start the service SharePointPSSearch with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{A373E5B2-7A87-11D3-B1C1-00C04F68155C}"

"An error occurred while refreshing the portal application cache"

"Synchronization exception occurred"

From the Sharepoint Logs:

"07/21/04 02:58:22:625 UNK 00000000 00000C08 QP Cache - Building Catalog The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
