We have a document library with major and minor versioning turned on.

Here's a sample version history:

2.1 <- this is what was created by accident and we want to get rid of
2.0
1.1
1.0
0.1

Everthing is fine up to 2.0 but the minor 2.1 version was created
accidentally and we want to delete it. The GUI doesn't seem to let us do so.

I know we can restore 2.0 onto a 2.2 and publish a 3.0 but is there a better
way to do this?

Thanks!

Hello,

Thanks for your post.

Based on your description, I understand the issue you meet that a wrong
minor version (2.1) of the document is accidentally created. You want to
remove the minor version (2.1) and restore to the latest correct major one
(2.0). You also understand how to restore to the Version 2.0 and delete the
wrong one (2.1).

If I misunderstood anything, please feel free to let us know. Thanks.

According to my research and understanding on SharePoint versioning, there
is no out-of-box way to directly delete the current version the involved
document is at. The only supported solution is to restore to the latest
correct one before deleting the wrong one, as you mentioned in the original
post.

For more information, please refer to:

Please let us know if there is any specific needs so that this solution
doesn't meet your requirement. We'd like to provide further assistance.
Thanks.

Lionel,

Thank you for answering my question. It's going to be upsetting to the
users that they can't get rid of their accidental minor versions. We'll have
to explain how to restore and delete the wrong one.

Hello,

Thanks for your feedback.

I'm happy to hear that the information answers your question. If you have
any other questions on this topic, please do not hesitate to let me know. I
am glad to provide further assistance.

In order to benefit the members in the newsgroup, I summarize the issue as
follows:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Problem Description
-----------------------------------------------------------------
In a document library with versioning feature enabled, after a minor
version is accidentally created, it cannot be deleted directly and restored
to the previous major version.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Resolution
-----------------------------------------------------------------
There is no out-of-box way to directly delete the current version the

involved document is at. The only supported solution is to restore to the

latest correct one before deleting the wrong version, as the steps
described below:

1. Point to the item or file for which you want to manage versions, click
the arrow that appears, and then click Version
2. Point to the latest correct version that you want to restore, click the
arrow that appears, and then click Restore.
3. When you are prompted to confirm whether you want to restore the version
as your current version, click OK. The latest correct version will be
updated to a new minor version.
4. Point to the wrong minor version that you want to delete, click the
arrow that appears, and then click Delete.
5. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click OK.
6. Publish the latest minor version to be a major one.

As the result, the version number will increase but the correct major
version will be kept and the wrong minor one will be deleted.

Thanks for your contribution again.
