I'm sure this is simple but it sure is frustrating me.

I am trying to add a new user (Reader) to our SP 2003 Portal and I am doing
it from my Outlook 2003 address book. The new user's data populates but when
I click 'Finish' to add her I get an error message that says, 'User does not
exist'.

I need to add her right away and I am getting nowhere.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Try adding her by domain\username instead of email address. Does this work?

Thanks for the quick reply. That didn't work either.

For all users or just this one? if you look at the existing users are they
in the same format as you are using to add her?

Just this one. In fact, even if I copy/paste existing user domain\username
and replace username with one for her it doesn't work.
I've also tried: adding a new distribution list with her as the only member
-didn't work; adding a new user by using an existing username and the
existing user popped right up; I added myself just fine.

Something is funny about her account in AD. Not sure I can help you too
much other than to tell you that you have a typo or something somewhere.

I saw that you were using the Outlook Address Book. There is one known
problem when doing bulk moves from the Outlook Address Book that things will
not work if certain fields (such as the e-mail field) do not have values or
have invalid versions.

I'm fairly sure that I haven't seen this in connection with adding users,
but the confusing message is familiar so it is at least worth checking if
her Outlook data is complete.

And, of course, one should point out that the Outlook Address Book isn't
really a separate book, but a view of a contact folder. If there are
problems with her date in the OAB, then the contact item needs to be
updated.
