Does anyone have any information on using SharePoint Portal Server 2003 with
older versions of Office? e.g. 2000 or XP/2002.

Does SPPS2003 work with documents created in these older formats?
What functionality is not supported?
Would it be better to use SharePoint 2001?

Thanks

you can use sps2003 with these office version. problem is certain functions
do not work with these versions:
eg.
- create new document from doclib
- edit document inside doclib (ie. you have to download, edit the document
and then upload again)
- datagrid view on lists does not work
- no office integration
and numerous other small features..

all depends on, what you want to do. we have written an extension for a
customer of ours so that his partners with older offices(2000&xp) versions
also can use the portal to create and edit documents.

i would not recommend using sharepoint 2001. you could probably buy your
office 2003 licenses from the time(=money) you spend customizing and
maintaining it..
