If so, how does the install need to take place?

We have a virtual web page defined with the vb script in the cluster
resource. Now what? Install Portal Server on each node separately? Or..

Thanks

Portal server is not clusterable because it can be scaled to a farm. You
get high availability via the farm, not the cluster.

Can you not create a small server farm via an active/passive cluster with
access to shared storage?

This comes from MS KB 888037. I haven't tried it in any way so not sure the
ins or outs of the process. If you do try it let us know the results.
Medium server farm configuration in a clustered environment
A new medium server farm deployment is supported in SharePoint Portal Server
2003. In this configuration, Microsoft SQL Server is configured on the
active node and on the passive node of an active/passive failover cluster.
The configuration for servers in this medium server farm configuration is
listed as follows: . Two front-end Web servers that have the search
component enabled and that are running SQL Server 2000. The computers that
are running SQL Server 2000 must be configured in an active/passive cluster.
. One index management and job server.
. Optionally, one computer that is running the components for
backward-compatibility with SharePoint Portal Server 2001 document
libraries.

Portal server is not clusterable, in spite of Shane's post.

Shane's post is about clustering SQL, not SharePoint.

Bill - I didn't think SharePoint was clusterable either but, our friends at
Microsoft say differently. One of my clients contacted Microsoft for
clarification on this and it really means what it says. You install
SharePoint and SQL on an A/P cluster and then have a 3rd server running just
the index/job component. That way it is possible to have a high availabilty
SPS farm with only 3 pieces of hardware total.

Read http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;888037 under
Medium server farm configuration in a clustered environment. What else
could it possible mean? We have always been able to use SQL in a cluster.
