WSS 3.0 Quick Launch and Top Link Bar Permissions

Hi,

I have created a number of subsites under my main site and want users to see
only the Quick Launch and Top Link Bar items that point to the subsites that
they have permission to access.

It seems to me that:
(a) If you specify, when you create a subsite, that it should be on the
Quick Launch or Top Link Bar, this will work properly (i.e. users who have
permission to access the subsite will see it on the Quick Launch or Top Link
Bar, users who don't have permission to acces it won't see it on the Quick
Launch or Top Link Bar).
(b) If you don't specify correctly when you create the subsite, and manually
add the subsite to the Quick Launch or Top Link Bar later, the subsite will
appear on the users Quick Launch, even if the users doesn't have access to
the site.

I can understand why this would be - and assume something additional happens
when you create a new site - but I'd like to know how to correct it. I.e.
I'd like to be able to go through the various nested subsites and ensure that
users can't see Quick Launch and Top Link Bar items to subsites they don't
have access to.

Can anyone help?
