Hi

I have added a DC with 2008 R2 running IDMU and upgraded to the new
unixAtributes.

My windows 2003 sp2 server running SFU 3.5 Nis server used to be able to
sync passwords without the password sync component before the schema upgrade.

Do I now have to install the password sync component on the SFU3.5 to get
everything working

My understanding is that password sync in 3.5 was only for unix to windows
which I don't require.

However I understand that in IDMU password sync component is now required
for AD to NIS sync.

Am I getting this right?

How can I get a SFU 3.5 and IDMU to coexist during my migration.

You need to install password sync and enable that setting. For the DCs
runnign SFU 3.5 - you need the hot fix in KB921599.
