Is there a place on Microsoft's site or any other location that is a good
resource to find what MSxx-xxx number covers for other MS numbers?

In other words:

MS04-004 is a cumulative patch, I can see it covers MS03-048 but can't find
a list of all prior patches it would cover...

I hope this makes sense...

Thanks!

You might try this site for info:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/default.mspx

But I'm not sure there's any one site that tells you what you're looking
for. The above site is probably the closest I can think of and the best
resource besides MBSA in command-line -HF -V mode [verbose HFNETCHK mode]
for tracking down what patches you need.

I'm not sure why you would need to know this information. Researching
patches is complicated, but when it comes to cumulative patches for Windows
2000 and newer, all I really need to know is that the last one is the only
one I need. Where it can get more complex is trying to figure out which
patches are in the latest Windows service pack [for example, there is at
least one patch included in Win 2000 SP4 that can get uninstalled and should
probably be reinstalled after installing SP4 just in case]. Patches for
Windows NT and 9x also get complicated.
