I just thought that this would be something someone in this field could help
me with and would be a reasonable and appropriate thing to post in this
group. I did not mean to offend anyone. It might be trivial for you to
research but not so trivial for an accountant.

Here's a clue:
Non Clear-text passwords are considered more 'Secure' than clear text.
Secure starts with the letter 'S'
All of the protocols you mentioned are acronyms.

Shoulda looked it back up in the braindumps then....

Think it through. Which of these is a *secure* solution?
And by the way, the answer is wrong anyway. :)

There's a pretty bad precedent for CPA/Accountants and cheating, so
your credentials didn't help. :)

It's trivial for everyone. You go to:
You type in each of your answers, and read about it.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on the accountant having
trouble, but by God man, you have an "earned" Doctorate. At some
point in your life you actually had to do some research.
Nobody is really picking on you. You asked us a "test" question.
Yes, many of us know the answer. If we simply tell you the answer,
you won't remember it, and it'll be of no use to you. If we make you
learn the answer, it will have at least some retention time. So
unless this is a crossword puzzle you're working on, follow the
references given and do some learning. It'll keep you young.
Jeff
Such hypocrites! These are the same obnoxious jerks who
chastise others who don't reply to their liking, who don't
like others who reply to someone telling them how
incompetent they are in regards to computers and the
internet.
And I quote ANOTHER poster from the other day: "These self
proclaimed experts that ridicule and belittle folks for
seeking help seem to have forgotten that at some point in
their computing history they were "[Will Fleenor.]"

What nerve! Why are you talking down to this person? This
is make you feel better?
I HOPE ONE DAY you hire an accountant (hopefully Will
Fleeson so he can stick it to you) and when you ask him a
question in his field, he tells you, "At some point in
your life you actually HAVE to do some research! I know
the answer, but if I simply tell you the answer, you won't
REMEMBER it, cretin, and it'll be of no use to you! If I
make you learn the answer, boy, it will have at least some
retention time! DO some learning! It'll keep you young,
son! Now GET out of my face, I'm an accountant, not your
daddy, pay me for this advice I gave you and get lost!"
Jeff, try to post positive posts, not sarcastic little
lessons to Will on research as if he were a child. GROW
UP, JEFF!

Technically, I may qualify for that term. If you understand the
entomology...

Nope. I feel fine either way.

Had he been paying, he would have gotten an answer he paid for. But
that's not even close to the point. The original poster said he
received a question from someone who didn't include the answer, and
gave us a multiple choice set of answers. He didn't ask a question,
he asked us to answer a test question. That's extremely typical of
someone who is looking for a test answer, not knowledge.
When people responded that they wouldn't answer his test question, he
responded with a resume and qualifications, still not understanding
that the reason nobody answered had nothing to do with who he was, but
the method the question was asked. He responded that researching the
question may be trivial to us "experts" but not for him.
I'm sorry, but I have an extremely hard time believing someone who
could earn a doctoral degree, and he specified the degree was
"earned", would have a hard time typing a word into an internet search
engine and looking at the definition. And that's as trivial as it
gets, even in the accounting world.
>Jeff, try to post positive posts, not sarcastic little

For all I know, he *is* a child. This is the internet. He may have a
degree in accounting, and I have no reason to disbelieve him, but he
may very well be a child. Or a teen in a computer class trying to get
past his last homework assignment of the year. Or a network admin
wannabe who didn't get the cheat answers to the Security + exam. And
it's more likely he meets one of those descriptions when he posts a
multiple choice question and asks for the answer, not even wanting an
explanation of the answer.
For Will, the answer is: HTTPS.
But I still refuse to grow up.
Jeff
With all of that you didn't post an answer to his question... Wouldn't that have
been easier?
I happen to agree with these guys and won't post the answer... You can be anyone
you want in the newsgroups. I could come in and say I am Madonna... The way the
question was posed, it looks like some kid trying to get an answer to his
homework. How many CFO's, CPA or not, are getting asked questions like the above
and actually care to go find the answer and if so why? They pay people to go do
that for them. Heck even a CTO or CIO probably wouldn't go looking for the
answer themself.

Finally I appologize for this, it is below the belt. It does occur to me
that nobody gave me a really good answer because they were afraid to stick
their neck out and have other critize their response. You security guy and
gals are surely a critical group.
My thanks to all.
Sincerely,
