I have tried numerous times to access my hotmail account
(shown above) and have been unable to do so because my
password has been changed and not by me. When the
password hint or question for the clue says, "passwords
suck huh". Funny, I know. I have had this e-mail for
almost 3 three years and do not wish to obtain a new one.
I am a bit bothered by the fact that this was able to
happen and I question online security. I am very certain
that did not forget my password and that it has been
changed and not by me. If there is some way to check my
situation I would be really greatful.

Sincerely,
Jennifer J Hanshew

Check for a link at www.hotmail.com called "support" or "forgot password."
You'll probably have to email them and report the incident, and try to
convince them that you are really who you say you are... and the response
might not be fast. They might still require you to create yourself a new
account and forget the old account.

Unless you have information to the contrary, the most likely cause of
someone cracking your password would be if you chose either a password or a
password hint that was easy to guess. [There isn't much software in the
world that will protect you against that.]

If that wasn't the problem, you might also make sure you have done the
following to secure your computer:

Maybe I'm an optimist, but if there were obvious security holes on the
Hotmail servers or code, I would think this would have been big news by now.

Unfortunately, "online security" definitely requires every person who wants
good security to learn how to do it themselves. The reason for this is that
every online connection has at least two components, e.g. the server and
your computer. Internet providers like Hotmail don't have full control over
your computer, so that's where our work starts.
