Hopefully a quick question...

For corporate rollouts, Windows Update can download update
files to a local folder or UNC via the Windows Update
Catalog option.

Once I have the directory populated, how do I configure
Windows Update to point at the local folder/UNC rather
than the Internet site?

I want to update systems that are isolated via firewall.
It wasn't immediately apparent from the Windows Update
help info.

Thanks - Jeff

Hi Jeff,

You need to use the new "Software Update Services" (AKA
SUS). This permits you to create a federated server inside
your firewall that your clients will pull their updates
from. You'll also need the latest WIndowsUpdate/AutoUpdate
clients for Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

You can find more details about this on
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/windowsupdate/sus/defa
ult.asp

cheers,
