I am now at a new location. The router here is ProNet. I have no
problems connecting through wireless, however when I plug in the cable
I get a message saying "a network cable is unplugged". I've checked
the cables, they are ok. I've even plugged the cable from the laptop
to the modem directly but continue to get the same error.
I did an :ipconfig /all" and it showed me both the wireless card and
the regular NIC. It says "media disconnected" for the regular NIC.
Any sugestions on how I could resolve this problem.
Thank you.
Assuming the network (wired) actually works for other machines and the wired
on the laptop *doesn't* work elsewhere currently (test it) - it looks like
it is fried on your laptop. Repair it, replace the part in some other way
or replace the laptop.

How To Ask Questions The Smart Way

If all fails - then I would have to bet the NIC has gone bad in the laptop.
That is fairly rare so I would try
all of the above before giving up.
Thanks

You "Repair[ed] it, replace[d] the part in some other way or replace[d] the
laptop" and are still having the issue?
(In reference to your, "I've tried everything people have told you to try
before looking here for the answer.")

I didn't replace the laptop and don't have the money to have it
fixed. I had to settle for going for a USB connection to my cable
modem. (It only cost $6 to get back online that way...)
