"Messenger Service" pop-up ads

Hello, I have a query for help:
I've recently begun to receive ads in the form of pop-up
windows -- not browser windows, but dialog boxes
with "Messenger Service" in the title bar.
as far as I can tell, these are not browser-related. The
ad text is uncopyable; when I right-click on the dialog
box, nothing happens. I don't think they're arriving via
MSN Messenger, as I never open it, never use it. I don't
even have an account.
Does anyone know what these ads are, how they're getting
through, and how to stop them? Please reply to my e-mail
