Is there any way of having a previous post deleted? I
posted once ... made the mistake of putting in my real
email (didn't realize it got posted on the site) and
voila! 60 emails a day with infected viruses. HELP!!!

No, once it's out it's like a popped balloon - sorry.

This is from the upgrade web interface help file:

"About e-mail addresses and privacy
To avoid receiving unwanted messages (spam) in your regular e-mail account,
you may not want to include your regular e-mail address when you post a
question or reply to a post in a discussion group. Instead you may want to
do one of the following:

Use an anonymous e-mail address By default, when you post a question or
reply, the Don't show it option is selected under Your e-mail address in the
New thread or Reply form. This option uses an anonymous address in your
messages.

Use a modified e-mail address Use a different version of your e-mail
address that others will understand, but that spam tools can't automatically
pick up. For example, if your actual e-mail address is
emai...@account.com, use emailname(removethis)@account.com as your
modified e-mail address. In this case, the spam tools will send mail to an
invalid e-mail address, and others will know to exclude the (removethis)
when they send you e-mail. When you post a question or reply to a discussion
group, select the Show it option under Your e-mail address in the New thread
or Reply form, then enter your modified e-mail address in the Show it box.

Use a secondary e-mail account Set up or use an e-mail account, such as a
Hotmail account, that is separate from your primary account for posting to
discussion groups. When you post a question or reply to a discussion group,
select the Show it option under Your e-mail address in the New thread or
Reply form, then enter your hotmail account in the Show it box.

What's a display name?
Your display name is the name that you use when posting to a discussion
group and indicates the author of a post. This name appears in the By field
of any message you post. It is a good practice to use the same display name
whenever you post so that other people can recognize you in the communities.
The name you use can be your real name if you wish, but note that
potentially millions of people will see it."

You must use a newsreader, and use, as an identity, the e-mail address that
was used to make the original post. If, for example, you use Outlook
Express as your news reader, select the post you made (in the list of posts
to the newsgroup),

THEN click on 'Message' in the toolbar
THEN click on 'Cancel message' in the drop down menu.

Cancel messages will then progagate through the thousands of newsgroup
servers that carry these newsgroups. Some of these servers will honor the
'cancel request'; some may not.

If you made only one post, the 'swen-mail' flood may die away. WHICH
newsgroup you posted to might make a big difference.

As an experiment, I created a new mailbox, used it to make ONE post to a
newsgroup (not this one.) Seventeen minutes later the first 'swen-mail'
arrived. Over the next 18 hours, 15 additional 'swen-mail' messages arrived
at the mailbox. Since then, over the last six hours, no additional
'swen-mail' messages have arrived. But then you are receiving 60
'swen-mail' messages each day. There is likely an additonal path through
which your e-mail address is reaching infected machines.

For communication,
replace "at" with the 'at sign'
replace "mindjump" with "mindspring."

Thanks for your help,I'll try that. (other path could
be classmates or kazaa. I'll remove my email address from
there too.) This has sure taught me something the hard
way!!!

BTW Thanks for giving the info without being
condescending, rude etc. (FYI to people out there
providing answers with attitude - it's not needed ... we
realize we're idiots and have been had....no need to rub
it in)
