You were scammed in all likelyhood.

Download, install, run, update and perform a full scan (separately) with the
following two applications (freeware versions are the ones to use for this):

SuperAntiSpyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/

MalwareBytes
http://www.malwarebytes.com/

After performing a full scan with one and then the other and removing
whatever they both find completely, you may uninstall these products,
if you wish.

Download and run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

Reboot.

You can remove this infection manually. Some removal guide:
http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-windows-protection-suite.html
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-windows-protection-suite

If that won't help then scan your PC with MalwareBytes anti-malware or
Spyware Doctor.

Fantastic.

However - in the future - it might be beneficial if you quoted some of the
things you are responding to...

For those wondering - Bob Joy was responding to this conversation (as you
