Does anyone know where to find information on .SCF files (Windows Explorer
Commands)?

For example, there is a file named "Show Desktop.scf" in the default Quick
Launch tray:
"%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick
Launch\Show Desktop.scf"

Where can I find more information about these files and what commands are
available?

Thanks,

Marty

rightclick the desk, "New", then "Shortcut" with the command :

explorer.exe /e, /root, c:

(the commas are relevant)

Syntax
------

EXPLORER.EXE [/n][/e][,/root,<object>][[,/select],]

Switches
--------

/n: Opens a new window in single-paned (My Computer) view for each item
selected, even if the new window duplicates a window that is
already open.

/e: Uses Windows Explorer view. Windows Explorer view is most similar
to File Manager in Windows version 3.x. Note that the default view
is Open view.

/root,<object>: Specifies the root level of the specified view. The
default is to use the normal namespace root (the
desktop). Whatever is specified is the root for the
display.

/select,: Specifies the folder to receive the initial
focus. If "/select" is used, the parent folder
is opened and the specified object is selected.

Examples
--------

- To open a Windows Explorer view to explore only objects on \\<servername>, use the following syntax:

explorer /e,/root,\\<server name>

- To view the C:\WINDOWS folder and select CALC.EXE, use the following syntax:

explorer /select,c:\windows\calc.exe

Mark,

Thanks for the reply, but that's not what I am interested in. That
functionality has existed since Windows 95.

SCF files are a new set of "scripting" commands for the shell available in
Win2000, and also in Win98 (I think).

AFAIK: The scf format is not documented. There are only two
possible instances, one for showing the desktop, and one for
showing the channel bar. All other attempts I made in the past
to change parameters failed.
