I have a networked pc and network norton av. a problem
only seems to be affecting my pc? one of my svchost.exe
system processes is jumping to 99 use of cpu and staying
there within a minute of booting. rebooting doesn't clear
it. av definitions were updated and system scan run
yesterday. didn't fix prob. do i have a virus? no other
symptoms.

have subsequently identified svchost.exe process as the
rpc one if this helps. my network av live protection has
also just spontaneously disabled itself.

That will not work. The virus will disable the scan before it happens - it
loads addresses of most security software on boot and prevents detection. I
have it too and can't get rid of it.

Since SVCHOST is the target name of *many* infectors -- Don't rush to judgment based upon
your limited experience.
