After rebuilding my demo environment I had a disk crach that nuked my WS2008
based AD RMS cluster. Since I have not had the time to proctect any docs I
decided to build a new WS2008 R2 based AD RMS cluster. So I nuked the SCP in
AD and reinstalled all the binaries, got the AD RMS cluster up and running
again. Funny thing now is that clients work without any probs from Office
applications- can activate and protect content whereas the MOSS, WSS and
Exchange servers are not working - they were using the former AD RMS server
without any problems. I have granted the computer accounts and relevant
service accounts read and execute permissions on the ServerCertification.asmx
pipline, added the cluster URL to Local Intranet, I can access the
certification pipeline using IE from the SharePoint servers. When trying to
enable SharePoint for IRM it throws the following error:

Information Rights Management (IRM): There was a problem while initializing
the content licensing certificate (CLC) from the local lockbox.

A CLC represents a user's right to create and publish content. The server
needs a CLC in order to create IRM protected documents.

Additional Data
Error value: 8004cf3e

Any one seen this before and know how to fix it. From what I can tell the
Server Lockbox located under "ProgramData\Microsoft\DRM is empty so the
machine should be activated. Could this error be caused by the former
activation on the nuked AD RMS cluster is still present somewhere.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, is the DRM\Server (c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\DRM\Server\) folder empty as well? There might be CLC / RAC
certificates for accounts running iis pools. If there are any delete them and
restart IIS. Afterwards try to set up IRM on sharepoint again.

Also check IIS log on your AD RMS server if there are any 401 messages.

Regards

Martin
