I have been trying to get an answer by searching the web for the reason that
I can't activate Microsoft Reader. I see this problem has been posted in
the past but I haven't found an answer to why I am not able to activate the
"Reader". The message I am getting is:

Activation Error
Microsoft Activation Server is unavailable

Microsoft Activation Server is offline for regular maintenance or upgrade,
or it may have technical difficulties now. Please try activating again later.

Does anyone know how to activate this program or when the server will be
available?

I am having the same problem. After several hours of searching, I have found
that this is a continuing problem. Posts from months and years ago, back to
2002 so far, have shown that this is a recurring problem. Apparently the
servers can be down for weeks, with no one at Microsoft doing anything about
it, and no alternative way to activate and read books one has purchased.
Ridiculous for an IT company of this size and reputation! I am now seriously
looking for an alternative reader for my default use and will do my best to
get different versions of the Reader format books I have.

Three days later and I'm having the same problem also. This is appalling! I'm
leaving in 2 hours and wanted to have something to read on a very long
flight. Now I can't even download the book I purchased. Certainly won't be
wasting money trying this again. Some information about when the servers
might be back would go some way to making the situation easier.

I bought an ebook yesterday, then download MS Reader, and I got the same
problem!! Which team in MS is responsible for monitoring this?

The whole mess has become unusable.

I've stuck with MS reader since the beginning, but my newer iPAQ has
never been able to open books I bought, has never been able to do
annotations, and MS reader is slower than the other similar apps, such
a ubook, mobipocket etc.

Ive become convinced Microsoft won't do anything about such things
unless their market share is threatened, and then there will be a new
product, instead of fixing the mess *they* made in the first place.
