OK, what do I have to do to Activate this #@&%! Reader?

Apparently I have used up my 6 activations over 5 years and several
computers and hard drive failures, now with a new computer, I can not
activate Reader.

I requested an extra activation about 10 days ago, they never responded.
After over an hour on the phone, and multiple transfers, I was finally given
the correct contact number. After about a 1/2 hour explaining the issue, and
finally getting someone to react, I get put on hold, and someone else picks
up who can not help me, nor can he transfer me back to the person who could.
I am in this endless loop of non-service.

I requested again another activation, but nothing back from Microsoft!

What is the deal here? I can not access any of my library, and apparently I
can not activate Reader. How do I now get to my books?

I tried to call this number, however the representatives answering at this
number know nothing of Microsoft reader, they tell me that this is the number
to activate Windows!!!???

By the way, I tried this same number several times and just when I thought I
had someone to help me, I got transfered to a person who no idea of what to
do.

I submitted my third on-line request - still having not heard back from the
first two.

As much as I like my e-books, I am seriously considering going back to hard
copies - the Microsoft Reader hassle is just simply not worth it.

Is there any way around this ridiculus process?

You have to ask for a supervisor at that number typically.

It is in their database, but they just don't listen :(

This is pathetic! At this point, I have accumulated four reactivation
confirmation numbers, and over three hours of phone time to Microsoft.
Apparently, there is nobody at the 866 834 8317 number that knows how to do
anything with the MS Reader. And there are no supervisors, they are "busy".

I am out of of ideas. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Never accept the whole "the supervisors are busy" line that they try to give
you.

I work for a call center and if they insist on a supervisor and they try to
turn you down then it's a violation of FCC regulations and they can be fined
up to $50,000.

That applies even if they are in India since the call originated in the US
and the initial # dialed is in the US meant for a company in the US and was
only routed afterwards.

I've had to deal with this situation too before. Just inform the operator
that you will notify the proper government agency that they are violating
FCC regulations by refusing a supervisor. Usually at that point they crap
themselves and transfer you.

Very Interesting. Can you provide a reference for this?

That is really good information, I think I will try again - one last time.
By the way, do have the legal reference for this?

Thank you,

John and All:

We have been encountering some issues over the weekend with our extra quota
grant process. These problems should now be resolved. I encourage you to
please try activating once again, as your requests should have been granted
as part of the resolution. If you find that your request has still not been
granted and it has been over 24 hours since you requested additional quota
please reply back and I will escalate the issue for resolution.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

It finally worked, after a couple of weeks of tryiing, it finally worked!

Now that I can access my books, how do I convert them to a format that is
more accessible? After going through this MS Reader hell, I feel like I did
when I bought a Betamax back in the 80's...

Christine,

I too am having problems which previous advice has not resolved. I have
tried emailing you direct, but it appears that all three of the domains on
which I have email addresses are "spam" blocked by comcast.net

I operate an HTC Apache. I used to read e-books without difficulty. I
performed a ROM upgrade (AUK Ver 2.2) and now cannot open e-books. MS Reader
advises that I need to reactivate. I have reactivated to no avail. When I
download a book, it opens on the desktop version of reader perfectly. When I
try to open it on the PPC it either crashes Reader, or pops a message up
saying that I need to reactiovate - have had both scenarios whilst playing.

I have tried to read into the details re the OEMInfo.xml file, but note that
this file is already present in the Windows directory.

Any help appreciated. email address is stre...@clear.net.nz

Thanks,
Simon.

I'll have to see if I can find the exact FCC reg in one of the guidebooks at
work.

I just remember flipping through our Call Center Do's & Don'ts book that one
of our old employees used to have around.
