The Microsoft Reader is not yet compatible with WM 6.1. We know that this
is an important issue for our customers and are doing our very best to
release and upgraded version. We are hoping to release a new version
shortly. When a WM 6.1 compatible version is available we will post a
notice here and on our website.
Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

I've been a Windows CE/PocketPC/WM user since Casio Cassiopeia E100 (OS:
Windows CE 2.11 Palm-size PC edition) and have gone through many
brands/models throughout the years. I also been using MS reader even before
MSFT embeded it in the previous Pocket PC OSs. I'm very disappointed that
MSFT did not even consider releasing an upgrade version of MSReader for WM6.1
or even a fix/patch before releasing WM6.1.
Thanks,
- Chuck
I'm running version 2.4.1 build 5323 of MS Reader. I went through the
activation process on this new device. When MS Reader comes up is says,
"Activated for Microsoft Reader" on the splash screen. When I attempt to
open an eBook with DRM I get the message, "The digital security software that
protects this eBook has been updated. You must re-activate in order to open
this title. Please go to www.microsoft.com/reader/update for additional
information."
Having just been there and done the update, I see no future in this path.
What's the next step?
Thanks for your help.

Any word of Reader working on 6.1? This note was posted 4 months ago almost.
I just bought the Touch Pro and would like to start using Reader again.
To Microsoft Staff: If Reader worked on a cooked WM6.1 (*not* a souped-up
version of WM5 or WM6.0), why does Microsoft have so much trouble making
their baseline version work?
I just hope this application doesn't go the way of the Pocket MSMoney.
What is the status on a Windows Mible 6.1 compatible activation for MS
Reader? Your post was in September 2008. It is now April 2009. Just
wondering. I would like to be able to read my purchased books on my phone.
Thanks
John
That's not a very good solution...well unless you want to use the Kindle App
from Amazon.

'I have never managed to get Reader activated on any of my WM5 or WM6
devices. I eventually gave up and used ConvertLit <http://convertlit.com/>
to strip the DRM off of my eBooks. (Before anyone gets upset, ConvertLit,
while probably illegal in the USA by the "letter of the law," conforms to
the "spirit of the law." It can only strip the DRM off of eBooks registered
to _your_ account, by using the license on your activated PC. It can't
willy-nilly break Reader's encryption of any book. I liken it to burning a
DRM'd iTunes song you purchased to a CD in order to rip it to WMA to also
play on your Zune. It's just a tool. Properly conforming to copyright
fair-use principles by not sharing the unencrypted copy is now up to you.)
Once stripped, the books will open on an unactivated/not properly activated
copy of reader, solving your problem.'
I hope this helps, at least until MS comes up with a real solution...
