Is there any official word from Microsoft that Reader does not work on
Windows Mobile 6.1? I am unable to activate Reader on HTC Touch Diamond in
spite of numerous attempts, and I read someplace that Reader will not
activate on 6.1. Is this true? I have many ebooks that I am unable to read.
Does anyone have any help for this problem? Thanks.

Mary Jo and all.

The Microsoft Reader is not yet compatible with WM 6.1. We know that this
is an important issue for our customers and are doing our very best to
release and upgraded version. We are hoping to release a new version
shortly. When a WM 6.1 compatible version is available we will post a
notice here and on our website.

Sincerely,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

I have the same problem with my HTC Touch Diamond and I believe everyone with
a wm6.1 and pocket pc ms reader is losing their patience and can no longer
wait for the new upgrade. I will have to look for a new ebook reader and try
replace all of my favorite ebooks. I have about over 300 .lit books and 90%
of them were purchased at least at $5-$10 or more for each and that's
thousands of dollars wasted. Some were created by me using MS Word Add-in
LIT creator.

I've been a Windows CE/PocketPC/WM user since Casio Cassiopeia E100 (OS:
Windows CE 2.11 Palm-size PC edition) and have gone through many
brands/models throughout the years. I also been using MS reader even before
MSFT embeded it in the previous Pocket PC OSs. I'm very disappointed that
MSFT did not even consider releasing an upgrade version of MSReader for WM6.1
or even a fix/patch before releasing WM6.1.

Almost the New Year and 3 months after you wrote the following message. Any
update on the possibility and timeline of an activation update for Microsoft
Reader? I'm at the point of throwing out my Pocket PC phone and going with
Google.

Thanks,
- Chuck

Is there a projected date when the compatibility issue will be addressed? I
have a new Verizon XV6900. Everything about MS Reader works fine except for
the activation.

I'm running version 2.4.1 build 5323 of MS Reader. I went through the
activation process on this new device. When MS Reader comes up is says,
"Activated for Microsoft Reader" on the splash screen. When I attempt to
open an eBook with DRM I get the message, "The digital security software that
protects this eBook has been updated. You must re-activate in order to open
this title. Please go to www.microsoft.com/reader/update for additional
information."

Having just been there and done the update, I see no future in this path.
What's the next step?

Thanks for your help.

Any word of Reader working on 6.1? This note was posted 4 months ago almost.
I just bought the Touch Pro and would like to start using Reader again.

I had a Cingular 8525 with a cooked WM6.1 (emulating WM7). Reader Activation
worked fine once I imported an OEMINFO.XML file. Yesterday, I traded up to
an HTC Fuze, and guess what? Reader ... Nada. (Even with the native
OEMINFO.XML, which is in ROM so I cannot replace it.) I can open the .LIT
files I created from Word 2003 Add-in, but none of the purchased fiiiles.

To Microsoft Staff: If Reader worked on a cooked WM6.1 (*not* a souped-up
version of WM5 or WM6.0), why does Microsoft have so much trouble making
their baseline version work?

I just hope this application doesn't go the way of the Pocket MSMoney.

Reader activated fine, once I replaced the OEMINFO.XML. Now, with an HTC
Fuze, Nada. If "they" can do it, what's your problem?

It is now Feb 24, 2009 and I am still unable to activate reader for WM6. Is
anyone even working on this, or is reader no longer supported. If it is no
longer supported, that should be publicized so we can all throw it out and
move on to other readers.

Dear MSReaderGirl,

What is the status on a Windows Mible 6.1 compatible activation for MS
Reader? Your post was in September 2008. It is now April 2009. Just
wondering. I would like to be able to read my purchased books on my phone.
Thanks

Just got an HTC fuze. I had a similar problem with my Cingular 8125 then my
ATT 8525, now am experiencing the same problem with the fuze. Previously on
the 8125 and 8525 I was able to install an oeminfo.xml file and activation
worked. Is there an update to this file that I should install for the fuze?
Can I use the previous file? I don't recall the exact process to do this.
Can someone post an update? Thanks, I haven't seen much written on this for
some time. With the new screen I am eager to continue reading my ebooks.
This seems like a great application that I would hate to see dropped.

It is almost a year since the ReaderGirl told us how aware they are at MS of
the reader problem with Windows Mobile 6.1. Perhaps the only solution is to
forget about MSWM and buy an iphone.

As a solution to read books?

That's not a very good solution...well unless you want to use the Kindle App
from Amazon.

It turnes out to be one of the electronics world other big rip off. LIT
format is dead long live the new format where you are going to have to buy
again again. I have a Pink Floyd album I bought back in the 70's on LP then
for my car in Compact cassette then in 80's on CD then on VHS then 90's on
DVD now coming out on "Blue ray" which I am not going to buy. So I bought the
same stuff 6 times. And this is not the only one in my collection, yet they
are still talking about cpyright if you want MP3 on your phone. This is
probably heading that way. I also have almost 100 books and eagerly waiting
to activate my phone. Which is now what, coming to two years. Good way to rip
us off. Not so much good way to create customer loyalty.

And 10 months later, is there any progress toward a solution to this problem?

I posted the following back in May on
microsoft.public.pocketpc.ebooks (the full thread is here:
<http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.pocketpc.ebooks/browse_thread/thread/f0ba27372eb988d2/4f9aed62895a519a?>

'I have never managed to get Reader activated on any of my WM5 or WM6
devices. I eventually gave up and used ConvertLit <http://convertlit.com/>
to strip the DRM off of my eBooks. (Before anyone gets upset, ConvertLit,
while probably illegal in the USA by the "letter of the law," conforms to
the "spirit of the law." It can only strip the DRM off of eBooks registered
to _your_ account, by using the license on your activated PC. It can't
willy-nilly break Reader's encryption of any book. I liken it to burning a
DRM'd iTunes song you purchased to a CD in order to rip it to WMA to also
play on your Zune. It's just a tool. Properly conforming to copyright
fair-use principles by not sharing the unencrypted copy is now up to you.)

Once stripped, the books will open on an unactivated/not properly activated
copy of reader, solving your problem.'

I hope this helps, at least until MS comes up with a real solution...
