I have Publisher 2003 and cannot figure out how to print
on 11x17 paper. The document is 11x17. I set the paper
size in Publisher and my printer driver (Epson 1280) to
print 11x17. I triple verifed my both Publisher and
printer driver settings. However, my output is a cropped
to 8.5x11 on 11x17 paper. When I return to Publisher
after printing, I notice that my page setup has reverted
back to 8.5x11 even though the rulers on the document
still show 11x17. To make matters even more odd, this
document was created in Publisher 2002 and printed just
fine. I've enen tried copying the contents of this
document into a new one and still get the same results.

How do I get this working?

If you have your printer driver set-up to the correct size, and you change
the page size in Publisher, there is no reason whatsoever it should not
print to size.
Publisher will not shrink/fit to size documents, so this sounds like you
have the incorrect page size set-up in Publisher, or you have options in
your printer driver incorrectly set.

There are no known printing issues in any versions of Publisher.

Check to make sure you have not ticked/checked an option in the printer
driver settings to print to a reduced size.

I definitely checked that. I've found that if I enable
reduce/enlarge (they're both the same check box) in my
printer driver, that it will print fine on 11x17. I
can't imagine this being an issue with my printer setup
simply because the file was created in Publisher 2002.
It printed successfully there. Publisher 2003 seems to
take issue with printing the same file.

Also, as I had mentioned before, although I can change
the page size in Pub03 and do a preview with the correct
page size settings, it seems to reset itself back to
8.5x11 after printing incorrectly. I tried this with the
other Office 2003 programs and they don't do this. This
issue seems to be isolated to Pub 03.

Any other suggestions?

I do not have Pub 2003 yet to test any of this.
But do you have 2 printers set up and the DEFAULT Printer will only print
8.5X11?
So after you print to a SELECTED printer it goes back to the Defaults
largest size 8.5X11
Just an idea that might lead somewhere.

Interesting concept. I do have two printers. The one
I'm using for 11x17 (Epson Stylus Photo 1280) is not the
default printer. I set it as default and it behaved in
the same manner. It resets to 8.5x11 but retains the
selected printer. Oddly, I tried printing on the other
printer (HP Deskjet 1220C) and it prints normally.

I'm going to try uninstalling and reinstalling my Epson
printer. Perhaps something was modified in the Office
2003 install. I'll post my results.

Doug, Publisher gets its default paper size from the printer driver.

If you are having issues, with the default paper size in Publisher, it is
*MOST* definitely a printer driver issue.

Try changing your printer driver to the newest version from Epson.com

When I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer driver
last night, I did so with a new download from Epson. The
most recent drivers are dated Dec 2002.

The print driver always indicates the correct size of my
intended output (11x17 in this case). It's publisher
that "resets" back to 8.5x11 after attempting to print
11x17. And even after printing, the print driver still
indicates 11x17.

Early this morning, I tested this by uninstalling Office
2003 and reinstalling Publisher 2002. It printed
correctly. I then uninstalled Pub02 and resintalled
Office 2003 and, as expected, it printed incorrectly.

Thus, process of elimination indicates the issue is with
Pub03 and not the print driver or my setup.

Doug there are no known printing issues with any versions of Publisher.

I can categorically state, it is with your printer driver, or your inability
to set the defaults in your printer driver.

Doug, After you set your printer driver to 11 x 17 are you going back to page setup
options and clicking custom? Click "full page" then click custom, it should show up
then.

Yes, definitely. Here are my steps prior to printing:

1 - File, Page Setup
2 - On Printer and Paper tab, change printer to Epson
1280 and select US B 11x17 under paper. Then I click OK
to exit.
3 - Return to Page Setup except go to Layout tab. At
this point, Custom is select and the size still indicates
8.5x11. I click on "full page" and the size becomes
greyed out but changes to 11x17. I then click OK to exit.
4 - Return to Page setup to verify 11x17. They both
indicate 11x17.
5 - Verify main page size has changed to 11x17.
According the rulers displayed, my new page size is 11x17.
6 - Pre-Printing. Before the actual print, I verify the
print driver has approrpriate settings. It does. It
indicates (in the various property windows) that I am
about to print on 11x17 paper.
7 - When I print, the output is cropped to an area of
8.5x11. I return to the Page Setup only to find that the
settings have returned to 8.5x11.

The only way I can properly print an 11x17 document in
Pub03 is by selecting the reduce/enlarge option in my
print driver.

I'm really at a loss how the file created in Pub02
printed correctly yet does not do so in Pub03. And it
does this consistently on new files that are 11x17.

I'd also reject the idea of it being a printer driver
(setup) issue as just this morning I went through the
process reintstalling Pub02 (clean install after removing
Office 03) where it printed correctly.

Doug, I looked through the support documents at Epson.
Try this:
In the control panel, open the printers folder, right-click your printer icon.

If you have Windows XP, click the Printing Preferences button.

Select the default settings you want to use for all your applications, in this case
11x17 (B) Click okay

Once you have printed your document, go back and change the default settings to
letter.

Tried that and got the same results. This time, however,
I noticed in the print progress window that pops up while
it's printing, it listed the media size as 8.5x11.

After printing, Pub03 paper zie (Page Setup/Printer and
Paper) is reset to 8.5x11. My edit space still shows the
document as 11x17. The print driver settings still say
11x17.

Start all over, open a new 11x17 page, copy/paste the information over. The file
maybe corrupt. It can happen. Publisher has no issues with printers. If the default
page is 11x17 then it should print 11x17. It is a driver issue, not a Publisher
issue.

That was actually the first thing I did. My original
document had a lot of color and graphics so instead of
using a lot of ink to test this, I've been simply
printing a thin horizontal rectangle that spans the width
of the page. For each test, I create a new file. And
each time in Pub03, it gets cropped.

I should add that I tested this earlier today on another
machine, using the same printer, and got identical
results. I find it odd that this would be a printer
issue. I've been using Publisher since Pub97 and have
never had problems printing on different sized media.
The machine I'm using is only 2 months old and the only
change was upgrading to Office 03.

Given that I can uninstall Office 03 and reinstall Pub02
resulting in correct output, simple deductive reasoning
would indicate that the problem is not with the printer
driver or its setup.

I have read every word in the manual. The only new thing I have come up with,
according to the manual, is everytime you change your OS you must reinstall the
software. It advises you to uninstall the software through the control panel.
Re-start the computer, then reinstall. It could be the service packs did a number on
the driver.

Thanks. I've opened a support log with PSS as I've
definitely uninstalled and reinstalled the print driver,
Office 03 and Pub02.

If they find anything, I'll post it. Thanks for your
assistance, Mary.
