Hello!
I'm trying to print a banner on a plotter (HP 500 design jet). When choosing
paper, a chose a personnal type, i.e. 3m by 0,6m (24 inch roll). But
Publisher keep on wanting to print the file on 3 sheets of paper of 1,25m...
Is there a way to cancel the multi page printing?
Is there somebody that had the same problem before? Is the printer or the
Software. Because the print test is ok on the printer, and Publisher's help
says that we can print a banner up alot more longer...

Please help!

Thanks in advance!

Frederic,

Have a look at these 2 kb articles...(also, ignore the HP model numbers, as these are not the only models that pertain to this article.

PUB: How to Print Large Banners, Posters to HP DesignJet [Q164113]

========
When you print a banner or poster that has a height or width greater than 48
inches to an Hewlett-Packard (HP) DesignJet 350c or 650c plotter, the banner or
poster prints in sections separated by gaps. In addition, the sections may
appear to print in an incorrect order.
CAUSE
=====
When you attempt to print a page which has a height or width greater than 48
inches, Publisher attempts to tile the page before it prints it. This is a
design implementation that prevents Publisher from stopping (hanging) when you
print to printers which support roll paper.
WORKAROUND
==========
Because the Windows 95 printer drivers for the HP DesignJet 350c and 650c
plotters allow you to automatically enlarge a small page to fit on a larger one,
you can reduce the size of your publication and then configure the printer
driver to enlarge the print out.
For example, to create a banner that prints 36" tall by 72" wide (in landscape),
use the following steps.
NOTE: You can substitute the actual dimensions of the poster or banner you want
to make. For best results, you should follow these steps before you add any text
or graphics to your banner or poster.
1. On the File menu, click Print Setup.
2. Select the HP DesignJet from the Name list.
3. Click Properties, and then click the Paper Size tab.
4. Click to select the "Fit To This Page" option and then click More Sizes.
5. In the Custom Paper Size box, type the dimensions of the finished banner or
poster. For example, type 36"x72". Click OK.
6. Click More Sizes (next to the Application Page Size list).
7. Type the dimensions as a proportion of the finished banner size. For example,
type 18"x36".
NOTE: This measurement should be less than 48 inches.
8. Click to select either the Landscape or the Portrait option, and then click
OK.
9. Click the Layout View tab.
10. Optional: Click to select the "Show a Preview After Pressing the Print
Button" check box.
This step allows you to preview your print job before it is sent to the
plotter.
11. Verify that the scaling information shown at the bottom of the dialog box is
correct. For this example, the application page size should be 18"x36" and
the size of the enlarged page should be 36"x72".
12. Click OK.
13. Click OK.
14. On the File menu, click Page Setup.
15. Click Normal, and then click OK.
16. Add the text and/or graphics you want to appear on your banner.
When you view the page in Publisher, it appears to be 18"x36". However, when you
print it, it prints as a continuous 36"x72" page.
STATUS
======
This feature is under review and will be considered for inclusion in a future
release.
The printer drivers for the HP DesignJet 350c and 650c are manufactured by
Hewlett-Packard Corporation, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no
warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or
reliability.

PUB2000: Unwanted Gaps in Publication When Printing Banners [Q218729]

SYMPTOMS
========
When you print a banner from Microsoft Publisher, you may notice unwanted gaps
between pages. These gaps usually range between .25" and .5", depending on your
printer. These gaps appear even if the Gap is set to zero in the Tile Printing
Options. No matter how you overlap the tiles of your banner, your banner tiles
will not fit together properly.
CAUSE
=====
The Gap set in the Tile Printing Options is smaller than the nonprintable region
of your printer.
RESOLUTION
==========
Add the width of your nonprintable region to the Gap set in the Tile Printing
Options. You can determine the width of your printers nonprintable region using
the following method.
1. On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and click
WordPad.
2. On the File menu, click Page Setup.
3. Set the Left margin text box to zero.
4. Repeat the previous step for the Right, Top, and Bottom margins.
5. Click OK.
6. On the File menu, click Page Setup and note the new margin settings.
NOTE: The margins will automatically be reset to the minimum margin supported by
the Windows printer driver.
NOTE: Publisher will round up if the number is in thousandths of an inch.
After you have determined the nonprintable region of your printer, add it to the
Gap in Publisher.
1. Open your publication. On the File menu, click Print.
2. Click Tile Printing Options.
3. In the Overlap Tiles By window, increase the listed number by at least as
much as your nonprintable region. For example, if you wanted .25" of overlap,
and your nonprintable region was also .25", set the Overlap Tiles By to .50"
