what is "absolute position"?

i published my website on godaddy.com and it's necessary to scroll right for
the pages to be seen. godaddy states "Using absolute position can cause the
contents of your site to appear to the right of this banner. Unfortunately,
we cannot troubleshoot custom code." can anyone help with this?

Either move to a paid hosting service with GoDaddy or some other host, and
do away with the ads which creates the problem, or here is a workaround
posted some time ago by Troy:

"Instructions for publishing to an ad-supported free web site through
GoDaddy using MS Publisher

1. Publish website to folder on local computer first
2. Open "index.htm" in browser window
3. Under the "Page" pulldown menu, select "View Source." This displays a
.txt file, showing the html code.
4. Using find & replace (under the "edit" menu), search for the first
instance of the word, "absolute" in the html code, and replace it with the
word "relative."
5. This process must be repeated for each page individually, by navigating
to each locally-published page from within a web browser, viewing the source
html code, replacing the first instance of "absolute" with "relative," then
saving the file before navigating to the next page.
6. Once finished making changes, the locally saved "index.htm" file and
accompanying folder must be copied and pasted (uploaded), via ftp client to
your GoDaddy website, and "voila," you should be up and running!"

My Note: You can also open the index.htm file and the other *.htm files in
the index_files folder directly with Notepad.

hi david! your note helped a lot. this is what i did: created a new
publisher doc (blank separate pages) with all the corrected html code and
saved it to my desktop (for now). and now i'm stuck at your #6. (i'm
basically a mac person w/o a mac, so it's difficult to tell i'm not a brand
new computer user.) next step?

Those aren't my directions...they were written by Troy.

Just upload the revised index.htm file and the index_files folder containing
the other revised .htm files to your host as you did before. If you used ftp
directly from Publisher before, then you have a couple choices. Open Windows
Explorer (windows key + E is a shortcut), login to web site under Network
places, and drag and drop the new html files to your host...or copy and
paste....upload. You can get by with just uploading the *.htm files if you
didn't make any other changes on your pages other than editing the code. In
other words, you won't have to upload the graphics again.

If you didn't use ftp to upload your site files before, or still have
problems, post back. Also, are you using IE7 or IE6 and which version of
Publisher?
