hello! i have a pc with an asus a7a266 motherboard that accepts 2 drr slots
of memory. i've instaled 1 slot with 512MB 266MHz DDR PC2100 DIMM from
kingston and i'd like to upgrate it to 1Gb of memory. The problem is that i
dont want to has no free slots then, i mean, if i want to increase even more
the memory, i cant because i dont have a free slot. so i thought that i
could sell my 512 slot and buy a new one of 1Gb, then i'd have one free
slot. the problem is that i've searched on your website and u say that to my
motherboard i only can put 128, 264 and 512, and no 1gb. isnt any model
1GB6MHz DDR PC2100 DIMM that fits, i thought that the KVR266X64C25/1G would
be ok. on the asus specifications a7a266 website says: Memory
2 x DDR DIMM Sockets
Max. 2GB PC2100/PC1600 DDR SDRAM
3 x SDRAM DIMM Sockets
Max. 3GB PC133 SDRAM, and in my manual says:

"the two ddr dimm sockets support 2,5 volt unbuffered/registered double
data rate synchronous dynamic random access memmory (ddr sdram) of 64 mb,
128 mb, 256mb, 512mb ańd 1 gb to form a memory syze between 64mb and 2gb.
one side (with memory chips) of the dimm takes up one row on the
motherboard.
ddr dimms support non-ecc modules that are available in both registered and
unbuffered versions.
install memory in any combination as follows:
socket 1 - 64mb, 128mb, 256mb, 512mb, 1gb x1
socket 2 - 64mb, 128mb, 256mb, 512mb, 1gb x1
total system memory (max 2 GB)"

so, can yuo explain me why cant i install a 1gb kingston slot (only one) to
add to my 512 ddr?
i suppose that there is a mistake on one of the sides: asus or kigston.
please explain it to me as fast as you can.
I appreciate that.
Sincerely, andrea oliveira

You might have better luck if you posted to something like

I think you need to add memory in pairs of size eg 2 x 512meg or 2 x 128 meg
etc but not 1 x 512 and 1 x 1 gb.

Or a single Dimm of any supported size.

Don't think that's true of DDR. But if the motherboard was not designed for
1 GB memory then unless the manufacturer says it's ok, it isn't.
