Maybe you need to create Winsock Proxy protocol for it - then your Winsock
clients will be able to access external AIM.

Make sure you have installed the MS Proxy Client on the machine running AIM.
Proxy creates a share on your NT server (called MSPCLNT or something
similar) that contains the setup program. This client is not required for
IE, but is required for various other internet programs to work.
I went through the same thing a few months ago and both AOL and AIM are now
working fine.
