One of our users takes his laptop home each evening and has a dialup
connection to his personal ISP.

He uses his IE to browse the Internet in the office via our Proxy Server.
Since setting up the Proxy Server access at the office, he can't browse the
Internet from home.

He has no problem sending and receiving e-mails from home.

Attempting to fix his IE, I suggested he goes to Tools, Internet Options,
Connections, Lan Settings and turn OFF "Use a Proxy Server" but that still
doesn't allow him to browse the Internet from his home. (BTW, his home ISP
doesn't require a proxy).

What am I missing in his configuration to allow him to browse the Internet
at his home?

One way is to set the connection to detect the proxy server
automatically, this way he don't have to set anything up at all as a proxy
server.

opps , it wasn't finish yet
The other reason can be your proxy server has the proxy client
installed on users PC, that way, it can't use some other service provider,
in that case he can't use other ISP or any time he would like to do it, he
should uninstall the proxy client from his Laptab

IE can have differnet proxy settings depending on how it was
connected. You changed LAN only. Don't! LAN should be to proxy.
There iwll be another button (click dialup connection name and settings
I think), and you can set up a different (or no) proxy for the dialup.

HTH.

Let me know if it works, as I've seen it, but not done it.

Thanks Behzad and "Bpup" for taking the time to respond. None of the
solutions worked and I ended up unistalling Proxy client. After re-booting,
the client was again able to browse the Internet via his dial-up connection.

NOW I have the problem of trying to work out how to configure his system so
he can have access to Proxy when he's at the office and access to the
Internet when he's at home!!!

Hey i think u have not major problem either u can do one thing is if you
dont use email and newgroup at office via proxy then just dont install proxy
client. Do only one thing that is just put the ip address or proxy server's
name in the browser proxy setting. Or, if you use email sending and news
group via winsock proxy then you have to install proxy client on laptop and
when your go home with laptop and u connect to other isp u dont need proxy
so just go throught u wrote as toos, internet option, connection, lan
setting and disable use proxy server and even if u clicked automatic proxy
setting just disable it.
Doing this things u can cure your problem.
