Ok, I have pcAnywhere on a client computer on my network. I am running
NT 4.0, SBS 4.5, PS 2.0 with a permanent ISDN connection. I have read
the FAQ, set up my proxy server, set up my wspcfg.ini, checked my
registry, yet have still been unable to reverse proxy. I can remote
control out to a host at my house but not in. Here is my configuration:
-Packet filtering is disabled
-I am not joined in array
-access control is enabled but unlimited access is granted to domain
admins and users
-logging is not enabled

When wspcfg.ini is configured with "ServerBindTCPPorts=5631,5632"
NETSTAT shows open ports on proxy server:
TCP 0.0.0.0:5631

When wspcfg.ini is configured with "ProxyBindIp=5631:<external IP>"
NETSTAT shows open ports on proxy server:
TCP <external IP>:5631

In both cases the client computer shows:
TCP 0.0.0.0:5631
TCP 0.0.0.0:65301
TCP <internal IP>:5632
UDP <internal IP>:5632

When I point pcAnywhere at my external IP my client computers do not
show up. My computer at home does, and any internal IP I point it to
does. When I start a host session, pcAnywhere still says that it is
hosting at its internal IP. Thats probably wrong, should/how change?
My wspclnt.ini file has an array specified, but in my proxy I am not
joined in array. That might be a problem. Should I have pcAnywhere on
the proxy running gateway? Oh and when I try to remote a computer
behind the proxy, I dont time out with no connection, I get that the
computer is busy. I have run out of questions, and am somewhat
reticent to change any major configurations, so I have run out of
options to manipulate. HELP!!!!

If I can answer anymore questions about my configuration to help,
PLEASE let me know.

Yes, it does work, thank you. So what exactly is this telling me?
What are the implications of leaving access control disabled? I must
confess that I had removed the pcAnywhere protocols that I had created
in my original configuration, becuase I assumed that with unlimited
access that the protocols would be redundant. Am I mistaken? Another
issue that I came across is that I was not running the updated version
of pcAnywhere v.8.02. After downloading it through utilities/live
update, NETSTAT showed that the proxy now had port 5632 open. Thanks
for your reply.

It could have been the older version wasn't using the same ports?  You may want to try again and see what you get.  The other thing to remember is that PcAnywhere can run unattended (with no current user logged in).  In that case if you access control enabled PcAnywhere does NOT have any user credentials to access the winsock service!  That's where credtool comes in.  If you haven't used it yet, see an explanation of it in the FAQ (link below).
