Hi,

We are using MS Proxy 2.0 with required authentication. Basic authentication
as well as Challange & Response works well and are both enabled. Connecting
the Internet via the proxy works well for Windows machines as well as Macs
running Netscape (Macs require one manual login, Windows machines are
automatically logged on if possible).

But Macs running Internet Explorer (both 4.x and 5.0) have a problem. First
logon to the proxy server goes well, but after some period of time a new
logon is required. This is repeated every 10 clicks/3 minutes or so.

The MSDN speaks of 'you may have problems using secure proxy servers running
Macs' and suggest using the 'tunnel' method when using Macs. However, I get
an SSL port not allowed error from the proxy server when doing so. About
this error the MSDN speaks of particular ports (which is unclear) that are
not allowed for a connection on the proxy server and a method for allowing
ports (but not stating which ports should be allowed).

I really want to use authentication for the proxy server, but I can't get it
right for the Macs.

Does this rings a bell to anyone?

Thanks a lot,
Bart Roozendaal
