When my users try to get into their HotMail account, they enter thir login
info and when they click on the LOGIN button, it sends them to
https://lc1.law5.hotmail.passport.com/cgi-bin/dologin which fails and they
get "Cannot find server or DNS Error" from Internet Explorer.

If they don't go thru the Proxy server -- they can connect okay.

What do I need to do to allow https thru the proxy? (users are not using msp
client, just going thru the web proxy).

I think this is currently a known issue with hotmail. For now I think it
only works when using the WSP client.

We are having a similar issue with our new proxy server. In fact I am
looking for a work around right now. Proxy Server 2.0 with IIS 4. With our
older server using IIS 3, we have no issues.

Turn off HTTP 1.1 through proxy and you should be ok. Check out Q232098.

It is an issue with an increasing number of secure sites on the internet. Some
of the microsoft tech support secure sites, several govermental agencies
(www.fcc.gov), and many financial institutions (www.fidelity.com to name one)
behave the same as hotmail. Looking through netmon traces, the proxy sends a
TCP reset when trying to access some of these secure sites. I'd had a ticket
open with microsoft on this for two weeks....still no resolution, but I will
post it once available.
