Do NOT open the original post's attached exe file. It contains the
W32.Swen.A@mm virus. It is NOT an update from Microsoft. Microsoft never
emails or posts updates on Usenet. You should never download or open an
executable file unless you know and trust the sender.

Oh, but you expect us to trust advice from someone named Boogersnot???

Bob Harris waved a magic wand at the 'puter, changed into a moose

Fine... then go ahead and run the executable if you feel that way. Have
a ball! Let us all know how things turned out.

If I didn't want to follow your advice the first time, why would I want to
follow it now?

P.S. Are you aware there's a road named "Booger Branch Road" in Pickens
County, South Carolina? (OK, now, everybody head for google)

Why? We really don't care.
Boogersnot is a well-respected member here. The post was obviously aimed at
newbies or people with no common sense about such issues.

Hard to know where 'here' is, given that this thread has wormholed together
several unrelated groups. But wherever here is, sarcasm is apparently not
easily recognized. I just thought it was ironic that someone I don't know
was advising me only to trust people I know.

Her advise about not running such .exe files is generally sound. But it's
incomplete. A plethora of e-mail viruses have shown it's impossible to
'know' the sender, unless you have previously agreed to some sort of
signature scheme with that particular sender (and even that is not a 100%
guarantee). The phrase "... unless you know and trust the sender" is
reminiscent of "you can't get a virus from a word processing document".

Trust me on that, and please support my sponsors.

Yes I realized that after posting the message, lol, sorry about that. But,
on the other side of the coin, I did not recognize your name either since it
was posted to so many groups.......so was bit of a defense
mechanism.......sorry about that.
