One post suggested adding the field in timesheet view from within
Project by selecting Tools > Customize > Published fields.
I did that but for some reason the field is not being shown in the
Time Sheet view.
If I add custom field in Timesheet view from PWA>Admin>Views, I can
see the field but cannot modify it.
What could I be doing wrong?
Can the custom field be added to a published project which already in
progress or it can only be used for new projects where team members
haven't reported time yet?
You must republish the assignments in each project to make the field an
editable field. To do so, open each project and click Collaborate -
Publish - Republish Assigments. Doing so will "push" the editable field to
each user's timesheet. Hope this helps.

What custom field are you trying to publish? An enterprise custom field or
a local custom field? Let me know.

But the server just won't display the data. Any ideas?
I am creating a plan for help desk which supports various
applications. The plan is that when the support personnel get work,
they will add a new task in the timesheet view.( I have one summary
activity in the plan to which the new task will be added) While
creating a new task in timesheet view, the support personnel will
choose the application name from the list. I choose a task text field
from the enterprise custom fields and then created a application list
for the field.
I did republish the whole project and also the assignments couple of
time but no luck.
Thanks,
Abhijeet.

To publish a custom enterprise field, you need to open EVERY project in your
portfolio and do the following:
1. Click Tools - Customize - Published Fields
2. Copy the custom field to the right
3. Select the "Assignment" option for the field (on the right)
4. Select the "Let resource change field" option
5. Click OK
6. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments and click OK
The last step will "push" the custom field to the Timesheet view. Hope this
helps.

I believe it is a local field. I simply added the "Text 1" column to my Gantt Chart Entry table. The field contains an ID number that links to our bug database.
I did open the "enterprise global" and then went to tools > customize > publish and copied the field over to display in the web view. I've tried both "task" and "assignment" options but had no luck.
Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thx,
Adam
You must create this field as an enterprise field (such as Enterprise Task
Text1) in the Enterprise Global, and not use a local field. Once you have
done so, save and close the Enterprise Global, then close Microsoft Project
as well. Reopen Microsoft Project and then open any project (not the
Enterprise Global). Click Tools - Customize - Published Fields and copy the
new enterprise field to the right, make it an assignment field and make sure
the resource can edit the field. Click OK. Repeat the Tools - Customize -
Published Fields option for every project. Hope this helps.

I forgot to "push" the customs into the Timsheet view and hoped that
publishing fields would automatically add the field to the view.
Thanks for all the help.
