How can I print copies of my slides or a handout without the background from
the master slide printing?

Have you tried using the "Color/grayscale", "Pure black and white" option in
the Print Dialog Box?

I've tried printing it in B&W and Greyscale but nothing seems to work. I
know it can be done because I've seen.

Which version of PPT are you printing from, and do you want to print in B/W
or in color?

How were the images put on your slide? Did you use the "Insert", "Picture",
"From file" method or the "Format", "Background" method? It matters as to
whether or not the image will show up on Pure Black and White.

I'm using both PP for Windows 200 and on my home machine, XP-3. It's not
really a background, but a "master" slide. I think I may have to "remove"
background from master, print the slides, and then re-insert the master. I
think perhaps a "save as" may be in order. I'm trying to print in B&W.

It sounds like you did an "Insert", "Picture", "From file" method to insert
the image on your master slide. Try this:

1. Delete the image (assuming you still have the image file somewhere) from
your slide master.
2. Click "Format", "Background", click the dropdown and select "Fill
Effects".
3. Click the "Picture" TAB, then "Select Picture".
4. Browse to your image file, select it, then click "Insert".
5. Click "OK", then click "Apply to all".
6. Close out of your Slide Master and try doing a print job using "Pure
black and white".

I'm interested in the results so post back if possible.

Thanks for the feedback Bill. What it really is is a text box with repeating
words to fill up the page in a very light grey font color.

I went into "format", "background" and checked "Omit background graphics
from master" then printed my handouts. This solved the problem. After
printing I went back and and unchecked the "background graphics" option.

Thanks to all of you who responded and I hope we've learned from my
experience.
