When I try to record a narration with a new Telex 560 USB microphone that I
recently installed, PPT crashes with this message:

X Runtime Error!
Program: C\PROGRAM FILES\ ... POWERPOINT.EXE
abnormal program termination

I'm running Win ME and I have the same problem with both PPT 2000 and XP. I
even tried installing the microphone with an older computer (also running
ME) and the same thing happened. Everything was working fine - with a
microphone going into the regular microphone jack. The odd thing is that the
USB microphone works fine in every program I've tried - such as Sound Forge
and including speech recognition in Word AND PowerPoint (in case it was a MS
thing). I've re-installed with the Telex instructions, which includes
checking settings in the Device Manager, Sounds and Media and doing a test
recording with Sound Recorder. They all work.

Any ideas?

Are you connecting to a hub, or directly to a USB port on your machine?

Yes, that was one of the things that Telex said to check. Originally, I was
on a hub. I re-installed while directly attached and am still having same
problems. By the way, I found your website to be very useful. I like your
work.
