Each slide takes it's name from the Title. i.e. the "insert title text here
placeholder"
If your slide has no title.....you can add a title and drag the title off
the page
Format>Layout>Title slide

TAJ has explained where the slide's name comes from if you're looking at the
slide navigation list in screen show.
Is that what you're after or is it something else? There are other ways of
naming slides.
When I select Format from menu I do NOT get a Layout Title Slide option. I hovered over the arrow at the bottom and still no Layout Tiltle Slide option

That's fine, then. That's what we understood you to mean, just wanted to
make sure we had it right.

I'm not sure if you've already seen Sonia's reply. If so, there's a little
confusion over the specific instrux. You need to choose Format on the menu
bar then click Slide Layout ...
That will force the Slide Layout pane to appear on the right side of your
screen if it's not already there. In it, you'll see a bunch of little
thumbnails representing the different available layouts. You need to pick
one of those, one that has a slide title as part of the layout.
