I'm giving a presentation using A4 Landscape with an A4
Portrait file being called up from time to time.

I can call up the first Portrait slide with no problem,
but how do you get back to the Landscape show?

Second question, I can't see a way of calling up the next
Portrait slide, because the hyperlink seems only to pick
up the first slide. Do I need to save each portrait slide
as a separate presentation or web page (which seems to
work).

Any help would be appreciated, as I've not tried to do
this before, I've always 'shoe-horned' diagrams into
the 'wrong' format and taken the presentation 'hit'.

You need to put a link or action button on the portrait slide to take you
back to the landscape show.

Separate would be one option. Or use Chirag's tip to call the specific
slide.

What about just setting your presentation as a square or as "on screen show"
instead of 35mm, which is obviously landscape? Set up as on screen show is
going to fill the entire screen; you won't get any extra screen-room on the
top simply by showing a portrait orientation.

Hi Brian,
Not sure how you're "calling up" the Portrait presentation... If you're using hyperlinks, the following may be helpful...
You can hyperlink between specific slides in different PPT files by doing the following:

In PPT 2000, from the menu bar, select Insert | Hyperlink to go to the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.
On the dialog box, click the "File" under "Browse for:" on the right-hand side. Then select the file you want to link to and click OK.
After selecting the desired file, click the "Bookmark" button (under "Browse for:" on the Insert Hyperlink dialog box). Select the desired slide from the listing on the Select Place in Document dialog box, then click OK.

In PPT 2002, from the menu bar, select Insert | Hyperlink to go to the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.
On the dialog box, click the "Existing File or Web Page" under "Link to:" on the left-hand side, and select the file you want to link to.
After selecting the desired file, click the "Bookmark" button (on the right-hand side). Select the desired slide from the listing on the Select Place in Document dialog box, then click OK.

Hope this helps.
