I have several mp42 video clips that I cannot get into PowerPoint 2K. When I
insert them Insert>movies>from file - nothing happens. I can hyperlink to them
and Media player will run them but this is pretty ugly (closing windows etc.) Is
there a way to get these into Powerpoint? The message boards talk about mp42
compression drivers but the links to Microsoft's site are dead ends.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/download/default.asp

Thanks for any help you can give.

Jack, I'm not familiar with mp42, but I suspect the compression codec used isn't
supported by PPT. You might try the multimedia troubleshooter at
http://support.microsoft.com/support/PowerPoint/ppt2000/MMedia/Default.asp

Thanks for the lead. The site suggests trying to run the video in the
mplay32.exe when I try to do this I get a "Video not available, cannot
find 'vids:mp42' decompressor". Is this something I can download?

Wow, notta clue on that, Jack. I think I'd have whoever made the video for you open
it up and recompress it using MPG 1 or 2. (3 and 4 don't work in PPT.)

Jack, I did a search in google.com using search string "mp42 video" and the first hit I
got was http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/devdes/fourcc.htm . I didn't spend any time
reading it in detail, but it addresses codecs, etc. and third party products, so maybe it
will help, or lead you to other leads.

Yep! I'm a real "goner", and I'm so glad you posted your praises of Google, which, of
course, made me run right there and play. It's the best!!

Then I discovered, by analyzing my website stats, that Google is the number one referrer
for visitors to my website, by a big factor. That just confirmed that "Echo is right!"
and Google deserves my business too. <VBG> See you there.

Thanks for the help everyone. If you need the codec drivers for MP42 you can
find them at http://pages.prodigy.net/jagfire3/codecs.html. It's working great
now.
