Hi
we have a peculiar problem that we can't figure out. In
slide show mode text on certain slides is scrambled and
illegible. We are using Office XP on a Windows 2000
operating system. The problem is occurring on most
computers and appears at random. Changing resolution
doesn't help, nor is it a problem with the video driver.
It doesn't do it with any specific animation effect.
Sometimes changing the font size helps.
I'd like to know if anyone else has had the same problem
and might have a suggestion as to what is causing it.
thanks

Since it's random, that would lead me to suspect video drivers. (Not to
sound snippy, but how do you know it's not a problem with the video driver?)

I don't know it's not a problem with the video driver,
just suspect that it might not be, because once the
problem begins it messes up the font on any other
computer. By the way, the font used is Century Gothic and
we have had most problems with font-sized 22.
If you have any clue, any suggestions it would be welcome.
thanks.

Hm. Since you say once it begins, it messes up the font on any other
computer...I wonder if you have an almost corrupt presentation? I know I
can't replicate the problem here, but I'm also not using Win2k, I'm using
WinXP. Can anybody with PPT 2002/XP running on Win2000 reproduce this?

There was an issue with PPT 2000 growing fonts upon save, but this doesn't
sound like that problem, and I don't think we've seen that in PPT 2002/XP
anyway. You might give the "clone me" code a try in case you really are
dealing with something almost corrupt. Probably couldn't hurt.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q193848 (Ah, nuts, I
see this says for PPT 2000 and 97. I'd assume it will work with 2002 as
well, but I don't know for sure.)

Anybody else got any ideas? I'm kinda fumbling around here, as you can see!

I just tried to reproduce it here with no luck (Office XP on the Win 2000
system). Tried various sizes of Century Gothic with no problems. One
interesting note, 22 is not one of the default sizes for this font. Maybe
your copy of the font is corrupted?

FWIW, probably not much, but I've occasionally run into oddball
presentations that look ok in Edit mode but one or two slides (or just a few
shapes on a slide) will print/export/HTML/whatever as a different font. In
this case, it's definitely not a matter of missing fonts; I've never been
able to figure out what causes the problem (usually my client has gotten
them from somebody else who got them from somebody who ... you know the
drill). Or how to fix the problem short of deleting the wayward shape and
re-creating it.
