I would appreciate any help anyone could give me on this.

Try this, though:
Locate one slide where the equations go bad when exported and one where they
don't.
Working on a copy of your real presentation, select each of the equations
and ungroup them.
Does the one that goes bad in the WMF export also go bad when you ungroup
it?
And if not, what happens if you then export that slide to WMF?

Yes, once I ungroup each equation then it shows up in the right place in
the WMF file. Is there any way to do this ungrouping in one step so that I
don't have to ungroup each equation?
P.s., I just tried first saving the PP file as JPEG and then pasting the
JPEG into a new PP file and saving it as WMF and it also works. THANKS for
the help.

That's because GIF/JPEG/PNG are all raster only formats (bitmap, made of
"dots") while
WMF is a vector (made of lines/shapes) AND raster format, hence
"windowsMETAfile". Anyway, fonts exported as .wmf become shapes,
retaining the sharp vector information.
Think Steve already gave you the best method, which you said worked,
which was to ungroup your equations and then save as a .wmf.
Lots of clicking I guess...just get a grad student to do it :-)
By default, PPT exports to bitmap formats like BMP/JPG/GIF/PNG at fairly low
resolution. See the PPT FAQ for a way of getting higher resolution bitmaps
out of PPT
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq
Or hang in there, keep an eye on the PPTools page at
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptools
We're about to release a file export add-in that gives you a lot more
control over exports like this.
Good! At least we have a workaround, then.

It's possible to write a VBA routine that'd do the ungrouping automatically
(either ungrouping everything in its path or being more selective and just
grabbing the objects that come from equation editor, I suspect). Have you
done any VBA work?
Ya know, Steve, I can't find which part of FAQ deals with this, and I've
spent some time in there...unless it's the "mushy" bitmaps/.wmf tip...
??
Mac (doogle)
Ah, thanks, Kathy...
Actually I had it backward, thought I read "import", but this is a great
tip to know also...
Duh on me and thanks again,
Mac
Here's a quote from the PowerPoint FAQ at http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq
that may help answer your question. If not, please post a followup reply to
this message. Thanks!
=======
Exporting from PowerPoint to other file types
To export your PowerPoint slides to other file types (BMP, WMF, JPG, PNG,
etc), open your presentation and choose Save As from the File menu.
In the Save As Type dropdown listbox, choose the file type you want to save.
Give the file a name and click OK.
PowerPoint will ask whether you want to export just the current slide or
your entire presentation. The question is worded a little oddly, so read
the message carefully before clicking Yes or No.
Increasing the resolution of your exported bitmaps
When PowerPoint exports bitmap files as described above, it uses the current
Slide Page Size to determine the resolution (ie, number of pixels) in the
files it makes. The exact formula varies with the version of PowerPoint and
the resolution your video card's set to, but basically it's:
Number of pixels wide = Page Size Width times Magic DPI Number
For PPT97, the Magic DPI Number is 96 if your video is set to Small Fonts,
120 if Large Fonts.
For PPT 2000, the Magic DPI Number seems to be 72.
The answer to Life, The Universe and Everything is, of course, 42, but that
has no relevance here.
SO ...
To get higher resolution bitmap exports, choose File, Page Setup (or File,
Slide Setup) and increase the size of your Slide page (keep the new size
proportional to the old, please, or you'll distort your graphics, set text
boxes to wandering randomly around the page and so on. We don't want that.)

Anybody who's got any ideas along those lines, feel free to suggest 'em. Or
not.
