How can I add footnotes to PowerPoint 2000 slides? I
don't want to put them in as footers, because if I change
the content of the slides, I'll probably forget to check
the footer. I want the notes to attach to the content,
and thus appear at the bottom of whichever slide on which
I choose to paste the citation.

Best bet is to go into the Slide Master (View, Master, Slide Master) and
create a Text Box that stretches across the bottom of the slide. Set the
Font size and type accordingly. On slides where you add text as a Footnote
it will appear on the slide when in Slide Show mode, but on those you do
not, it will not show up as anything. Make sure you set the background of
the text box to "No Fill".
