Hi,

I have a custom button drawn in Paint Shop Pro. Have inserted it into
PowerPoint, with an added text box over it. However, when they are both
grouped together, I can't activate either the action settings or hyperlinks.
I can activate either the text, or the button separately, but not grouped
together.

In fact, if I draw a rectangle, I can hyperlink from it, but if I group two
together, I can't. Any workarounds?

Glen

Hi,

Partially solved.

Put a clear rectangle over the button and link to it, but it won't highlight
the click.
AAAAAAAAGH!

Glen, are you using PPT 97 or the Viewer? I know that hyperlinks on grouped
objects will not work in the PPT Viewer. I believe that the same is true of
PPT97 and possibly even PPT2000. The workaround is to un-group the objects.

Sonia,

Am using ppt 2000. I find it hard to believe that I can't have objects
appear together, and use them as hyperlinks.

Can it be done in ppt 2002?

Perhaps I really don't understand your requirements. I might add the text
to the button in PSP. Then, when you insert the button in PPT, it's ready
made and ready to go. Would that work? Just my late night thought.

A quick test in PPT 2000 and PPT 2002 shows that if you apply the links
(at least using action settings it does, didn't test for a straight
hyperlink) before grouping the objects, the link still works.

However, if you show the presentation in the PPT Viewer or in PPT 97,
the links won't work as described in the MSKB article above.

Echo,

Thanks deeply. I created two rectangles, hyperlinked them both to do the
same thing, and then grouped them. Clicking on either then activated the
link. However, if the click is highlighted, only one rectangle highlights,
which I can live with.

As I said, the limitation is specific to PPT97 and the Viewer. Should work
fine in PPT2K and PPT2002.
