I'd like to have two masters in my presentation - one for
the regular slides but one for the agenda, which gets
repeated each time there is a new section. When this
agenda changes I'd like to be able to change it in one
place. I'm able to insert a second slide master with this
agenda set up on it - but can't work out how to tell
Powerpoint to insert a new slide based on one master or
another. Applying the design to a selected slide seems to
apply the master to all slides - not just one.

Any help appreciated

Norman,

Powerpoint (pre xp/2002 version) has one master called the "slide
master"...All your slides normally follow the look of the slide master.

But....you can create a pseudo 2nd master by utilizing the "title
master"....while viewing the "slide master" Choose "insert" menu, "title
master". Make the title master how you want your agenda slides to look.

Then when you want to create an agenda slide choose "Format" menu, "layout"
"title slide".

For other workarounds see "multiple masters" @

Norman,
A simple workaround is to create your Agenda slide in
normal view - change it as you wish (bkgd too - never
click Apply to All). Then when you need to add addtional
Agenda slides as you presentation progresses go to <slide
sorter view - hilight the Agenda slide - copy - and paste
in the new position - modify it in normal view.

One thing to keep in mind is to never click to the Slide
Layout menu and accidentally reapply your slide master
attributes.

I think the title master and slide master solution is a
godd way IF you do not need a Title Master.

You are able to create more than one master. Ask Sonia or

Norman,
My advice is going to go in an entirely different direction than the others.
If you create a custom show, you can insert a single slide multiple places
in the custom show. This way, you really only have one agenda slide but
reference it many times.

If you need more information on creating custom shows, there is an article
on my site at URL:
