How would I connect 2 laptops to 1 projector? I do presentations on the
road and need to be able to instantly switch to my backup laptop PC while
giving a presentation. Any good-quality portable switchers out there?

Help?

Check with your local Audio Visual Company. There are a number of
manufacturers of switchers for this purpose.

You wouldn't need anything as elaborate as a switcher for this. A simple
multiple-computer/one-monitor switch would do the job. You can buy
mechanical switches quite cheaply, but I wouldn't. They don't work that
well.

But a KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse) switch from a company like TrippLite would
be fine. You don't have to use the keyboard/mouse portion if you don't want
to. Be sure to buy the best cables you can get to hook this up with. Cheap
cables --> Bad Image. TrippLite sells very nice cable sets to go along with
this switch. I think a 6 footer (video/mouse/keyboard) runs about 13 bucks.
Well worth it!

Pantucci,

A couple of things to mind.......

OPTION A
=========
A purely mechanical switcher........Like the old printer switch boxes of
yesteryear.

Two inputs (PC a and PC b) one out to the projector
You manually switch it to switch from one pc to the other

Here's one for starters
http://www.betterbox.co.uk/3PRODUCTLISTPAGE/TABLEOFCONTENTS/1tcontents2j/SWI
TCHESTABLE/SWITCHESTABLEpb/TEMPLATE2p/15tablet/TABLE1CONTENTS/CONTENTS/3/b/O
PTIONS3/SWPHOTO34/SWPHOTO34.html

That link should all be on on line
It's basically www.betterbox.co.uk
"product list" - option 9
video
vha/svga video
product options

OPTION B
========
Some of the better projectors have 2 inputs for PCs, just use the remote for
the projector to switch between the 2.

OPTION C
=========
What they said.....regarding a product made for the job.

Cheers

I've got one. A $10,000 Mitsubishi projector with dual VGA inputs. ;-)

Sorry. Couldn't resist. :-)

*hugs his Mitsubishi*

Hi,
Extron is great, and with a 10K projector then maybe it's the way to go...
However, at good computer stores for about $50 (or less depending on where
you are) you can find simple VGA switchers.
I have two that are used regularly: a two port and a four port (ie switch
between 4 laptop sources). The image #blinks# a little when you switch
source, but that is acceptable for me in most circumstances (and where it is
not there is Extron).
Another way would be to look at what inputs you have on your projector.
Normally VGA is input 1 and input 2 is an
RGB BNC. In this case get a VGA to BNC cable, connect both laptops to the
projector (one to VGA and one to RGB) and use the projector's remote to
switch. A cable remote is much less stressful when going this route.

Best regards,

Joel
