We are using Powerpoint with dual monitor setup with two
video cards. The way it is used, the slideshow needs to
be directed through the second monitor. The problem is
that we have to change the setting in the 'Set up show'
dialog box every time we load Powerpoint. Is there a way
to change the default setting to always point to the
second monitor?

Someone had the same question yesterday. Look for the post with subject =
Slide show does not default to primary monitor. They were using Windows
2000 and my reply was:

I would think that the setting should be saved with the presentation, but
apparently it isn't because I've just tried (PowerPoint 2000, Win XP). I
guess you'll have to set it each time. However, mine is always set to
Primary by default for some reason. I guess that if yours always defaults
to Secondary, you could swap your monitors in the Display Settings, but I
know that I wouldn't be happy if I had to do that. You're probably better
off re-setting it to Primary each time.

I did find the following that states that it defaults to Secondary in Win
98, but I couldn't find anything regarding Win 2000:

Randy:

No way around it , You could set your num 2 monitor to be your primary
display, but that
itself has its own set of problems. Try using PPCwin from
http://iosysoft.com. You can try
it for free for 30 days.

All: I hope I don't sound too much like a commercial, but a lot of people
want to simplify
this setup and this works...

A non-reversible way is to reverse the roles of primary and secondary
monitors through Display Properties dialog box. After you reverse the roles,
reverse them once again to bring it back to what you started off with. This
has worked for all the machines that I have worked with. The primary monitor
will be set as default in PowerPoint. But be aware that this is
non-reversible - you would never be able to set the secondary monitor as
default - atleast I haven't found a way.

Paul,

The question comes up a lot. Want to write it up so I can add it to the
FAQ?
Including a link to PPCWin.

Hey, thanks for that link! I'm cc'ing Steve to see if he can find a good
place for it in the FAQ.

Hey, Steve. This is a good link to a hot fix for PowerPoint 2000 to make
the secondary/primary monitor setting part of the presentation so that it
doesn't have to be set each time.
