Animating separate components of a smart art graphic

Is there a way if individually animating separate components of a smart art
graphic? E.g. where I am showing a process I want to have the parts of the
process apppearing one by one. I can't seem to do it. When I highlight an
individual part and create an animation it does it for the whole graphic.

When you double click the animation in the custom animation task pane,
choose last tab Smart-art animation, in the groupspicture list choose one by
one. Does that help?

After you animate the smart art double click the entry in Custom Animation
(or pull down arrow > effect options) Smart Art Animation > 1 by 1
